Current
Becoming British is a body of work that includes an exhibition I curated, commissioning four diverse migrant artists to respond to topic. Inspired by this work and interviews in the community, I developed a durational performance piece. Its first 6h iteration was performed at Migration Matters Festival in 2024.
Diving deeper into the history and social significance of the ingredient, it is a creative project looking at the intersection between racial justice and food.
Tofu is a collaboration between: University of Sheffield PhD researcher Ke Li, myself and theatre maker, chef and York Anti-Racist Collective member Mikhail Lim
Exploring traditional Bulgarian cooking, ideas around food preservation and wintering in the context of slowing down and opening up more spaces to (re)connect with family, roots, the land and nature.
Global Voices Theatre
I am ⅓ of Global Voices Theatre, a female and non-binary, immigrant led theatre company that introduces international theatre by historically marginalised creatives in the UK. To check our work click here
This is a multi-disciplinary look at the idea of “social frontiers” (sharp differences in the demographic composition of adjacent communities). The project includes a performance and/or a static piece of installation art (both available to book - enquire here).
The work is the result of a collaboration between Professor Gwilym Pryce and 'Life at the Frontier' researchers at the University of Sheffield, myself & Rotherham based visual artist Uzma Rani.
I'm collaborating with the University of Sheffield on their “Ethnicity and Unequal Aging” project, leading the creative response workshops in Rotherham.
During this 12 weeks programme, I facilitate a group of 20 elderly citizens to create performance and other artworks which both express their lived experiences and contributes to the research.
Becoming [...]
This is a residential creative project that has taken place in 4 countries across Europe (Czech Republic, Romania, Germany & Britain). In each location it interrogated local national identity dynamics and centered the voices of local 1st generation migrants. You can read more about each iteration through the links below.
